Rock your Roots
Passionate for all things French, my love is rooted in memories supported by haunting, poetic tunes from French artists. The greats, Jacques Brel, Charles Aznavour, Edith Piaf, and Charles Trenet, are just a few who have spoken to my soul and transported me to my ancestral French roots. There is brilliance in the poetic storytelling of Jacques Brel, in his famous song NE ME QUITTE PAS. Such romantic phrasing... "me, I'll offer you pearls of rain that come from a place where rain never falls", "let me be the shadow of your shadow, the shadow of your hand, the shadow of your dog". Undeniable emotional intensity and how can you not be moved. I salute my French roots with ballads like "J'ai deux amours" and "Douce France". I also swoon when I hear Spanish guitar - no matter where. I can be listening to Andrea Bocelli and when he incorporates Spanish guitar, I'm hooked. Besame Mucho, for example. Which makes perfect sense as my ancestry.com results revealed strong roots to Spain and the Iberian peninsula. Viva Gypsy Kings... and lesser known artists, I don't discriminate. It was comforting to explore my heritage and recognize why there is a soulful connection for me to certain music genres and that listening to them transports me to a deep place of peace. Perhaps rocking your roots, identifying nostalgically with your ancestral music will touch your core and bring a balance to your life. Something to think about!
